Frequently asked

How does WildEcho identify a species?

Three ways. Record the sound and WildEcho identifies the species from the call itself. Snap a photo and it identifies what it sees. Or describe what you heard in words, including an onomatopoeia like “hoo-hoo”, if the animal has already gone quiet. Every result comes with the species’ habits and range. Identification is AI-assisted and meant for learning and enjoyment, always verify with an expert for anything safety-related.

Does it record and analyse audio?

Yes. When you record a clip, WildEcho uploads it to our Sound ID service, which analyses the call itself and matches it against a reference library of known recordings. The clip is also kept on your device as a keepsake. It is added to our reference library only if you agree, and you are asked each time. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what is sent and where it goes.

Why does it sometimes say it isn’t sure?

That is deliberate. A short, noisy, or distant recording often is not enough to separate two similar species, and we would rather tell you that than name the wrong animal confidently. If it happens, try to get closer, record for longer, or wait for a quieter moment and record again. Turning location on also helps, because it narrows the list to species that actually occur where you are.

Does it work without a signal?

Identification needs a connection, because the analysis runs on our service rather than on the phone. Your journal, your saved finds, and your badges are all on the device and work offline.

What’s free, and what’s paid?

There are two tiers. Free gives you a set number of identifications to try WildEcho, with no account needed. WildEcho Pro unlocks unlimited identifications, full species profiles, Camp Mode, Trip Guide, and live local species lists. Pro is $9.99 per month or $49.99 per year. Prices are shown in the app, in your own currency, before you purchase.

How do I manage or cancel a subscription?

Subscriptions are billed through your Apple App Store account. Manage or cancel any time in Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and Pro stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us, because Apple processes the payment. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with the same Apple Account, and choose the purchase. If Apple declines and you think something went wrong on our side, email us and we will help you make the case.

How do I restore a purchase?

Open WildEcho and use “Restore purchases” on the plans screen, signed in with the same store account you purchased with.

What do I need to run it?

An iPhone running iOS 15.1 or later. The download is about 35 MB. There is no Android version yet.

The identification was wrong. What should I do?

Email us with what the app said, what it actually was, and the recording or photo if you still have it. Wrong answers are the most useful thing you can send us, because a confirmed miss is what improves the reference library.

How do I delete my data?

Your journal and history live on your device. Use “Reset app” in the app, or delete the app, to remove them. If you created an account, your journal and pets are also on our servers, and deleting the account removes them. To have a recording removed from our reference library, or to ask what we hold, email support@blueharboursolutions.com. See our Privacy Policy for details.
